A Toronto voice actor and a South Dakota livestock farmer have become each other’s primary ally on Survivor 51, solidifying a cross-cultural bond that mirrors past winning duos.
Ana Sani and Carter Krull were never supposed to click. She voices characters in a 380-square-foot Toronto apartment. He runs 600 acres of farmland in Sioux Falls. But footage cut from the September 30 episode shows the pair locking in one of Survivor 51’s defining alliances.
“Carter and I are like a big sister, little brother duo,” Sani said in a confessional. “We could not be more opposite in our lives. He’s a farmer and he has a 600-acre farm with his family. Meanwhile, me, I’m a city girl living in a 380-square-foot apartment with my little Pomeranian, walking around doing voiceovers in movies.”
A Kyle-Kamilla Situation
Krull, 24, framed the partnership in explicit strategic terms. He cited Survivor 48 winner Kyle Fraser and his close ally Kamilla Karthigesu as the template.
“When I came out here, I wanted a Kyle-Kamilla situation and I just hit it off with Ana,” he said. “I was like that’s who I want to play this game with at all costs. In this game you need to have somebody who you can trust or you’re toast. She’s my go-to and I trust her with everything.”
The unaired beach conversation includes both players declaring the other their “number one” and discussing a path to the final two. Krull joked about winning with Sani in second place, then quickly added, “Or vice versa.”
Trust Built on Contrast
Sani, 34, said the bond feels complete. “I tell him everything and I think he’s telling me everything. We have such a great bond.”
Krull agreed. “The relationship I have with Ana is organic. I can’t even tell you how it happened. It was one of those deals where we just feel like we’re on the same page.”
The scene also showed Sani asking Krull to avoid risks that could lead to medical evacuation. “Can you, like, be safe a little bit? Because I need you.”
Open Era Raises the Stakes
Survivor 51 marks the beginning of the show’s Open Era, in which every twist, idol type, and format variation from 51 seasons is potentially in play. The expanded possibility space makes trusted partnerships more valuable, not less.
Close alliances have anchored nearly every winning game in Survivor history. Krull’s invocation of Fraser and Karthigesu signals that he understands the archetype. Whether Sani and Krull can replicate that success depends on how long the organic chemistry survives strategic pressure.
Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
