Taylor Sheridan has officially become the busiest man in television, and if you don’t believe me, just look at his casting announcements. They read less like a press release and more like a phone book. Season 3 of “Landman” is finally gearing up after what sounds like a genuinely rough stretch of filming delays, and Paramount dropped the cast news on Thursday, October 1, confirming some promotions that honestly should’ve happened a while ago.
Who Got the Bump to Series Regular
Four actors just leveled up. Colm Feore, Mustafa Speaks, Bobbi Salvor Menuez and Francesca Xuereb are all series regulars now, which if you’ve watched the show, feels overdue. These weren’t exactly background players in season 2 – they were doing real work. Now they’re locked in as part of the core cast, joining the heavyweights: Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter and Sam Elliott.

That’s… a lot of star power for one show. I mean, Billy Bob and Sam Elliott alone could carry a series, and that’s before you even get to Demi Moore and Andy Garcia showing up to do what I assume is some seriously entertaining scenery-chewing. Adding four more regulars to that mix isn’t just a casting update, it’s a statement. Sheridan clearly isn’t trying to trim this show down. He’s going bigger.
The Rest of the Returning Crew
Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie and James Jordan are all confirmed back for season 3. Nothing shocking there, honestly, these are the actors who’ve been quietly holding the show’s bones together while the A-listers get the splashy moments. And Michael Kelly’s back too, which matters more than it might look on paper.
Why Michael Kelly’s Comments Actually Say Something
Here’s the thing about Kelly – he’s not just a “Landman” guy. He’s also on Sheridan’s “Lioness,” which means he’s got a pretty unique vantage point on just how much this one writer is cranking out right now. And back in July, he said something to Us Weekly that I keep thinking about.

“Just to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan, I consider him to be one of our best writers ever. Nobody has ever done what he’s doing right now. Nope, it’s never happened. I don’t know that anyone’s ever had six hit TV shows – let alone six hit TV shows at once. This is unprecedented.”
Six hit shows. At once. Say what you want about Sheridan’s dialogue (sometimes it’s a little on the nose, sure, fight me about it), but you cannot argue with that kind of output. Most showrunners would kill for one hit. He’s apparently running a factory. Not everyone in Hollywood is just marveling at the output, either, since Mark Ruffalo has made clear the merger fight isn't over.
So What Took So Long?
The announcement mentions “numerous filming delays,” which, fine, that’s vague, but it tracks with everything else going on in Sheridan’s world right now. The guy is basically a one-man content pipeline for Paramount at this point, splitting attention across multiple “Yellowstone” spinoffs, “Lioness,” and whatever else he’s got cooking that hasn’t been announced yet. Something’s going to slip eventually when you’re stretched across that many productions. It was probably just a matter of time before “Landman” felt the squeeze. That pipeline just got a new name too, now that Paramount's $20 billion deal has been officially rebranded the Skydance merger.
Not gonna lie, I’m a little relieved it’s finally moving again. Season 1 hooked a lot of people with that gritty oil-industry chaos and Thornton doing his usual world-weary thing, and season 2 kept that momentum going well enough. A long gap between seasons can kill a show’s buzz fast – audiences move on, algorithms forget you exist, that whole thing. So getting confirmation that production is actually underway, with a cast this stacked, feels like a genuine sigh-of-relief moment for anyone who’s been checking release calendars obsessively (just me? okay).
What This Actually Means
Promoting four actors to series regular status isn’t just a line item in a trade announcement, it tells you where Sheridan thinks the story is headed. Feore, Speaks, Menuez and Xuereb clearly aren’t going to be side characters anymore. Their arcs are about to matter. Whether that means more screen time, bigger storylines, or just contractual security heading into a longer season, we’ll find out once the episodes actually drop.
What I’ll say is this: with a cast this loaded and a showrunner this prolific, “Landman” season 3 has basically no excuse to be boring. The pieces are all there. Now it’s just a matter of whether Sheridan, juggling what feels like six plates at once, can stick the landing on this particular one. I’d bet on him. But I’ve been wrong before.
